Afro-Caribbean Dance Workshops

The workshops will be held for 13 weeks from February 23rd – May 18th at Wadleigh Secondary School of the Performing and Visual Arts in Harlem.

The workshops culminating with two performances for the annual dance concert titled, Rebirth on May 27th & 28th at Wadleigh at 6:30 pm.

Kaleidoscope of Kultures Dance Theater in Collaboration with Balaam Dance Theater will consist of an educational component where the students of Wadleigh Secondary School, performers of Kaleidoscope of Kultures Dance Theater and Balam Dance Theater will participate and perform in a master dance class workshop. The audience will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on movement workshop, after learning the differences and similarities of the Balinese and Haitian cultures. The performance/master dance workshop will take place on March 30, 2009 at Lehman College from 11am to 12:40pm.

Cultural tour of Haiti beginning in Port au Prince and ending in Souvenance

April 9-16, 2009.

Finalist for the Surdna Teachers Fellowship in Haiti consisting of a 2 week summer 2009 trip to Haiti (Port au Prince, and the provinces/countryside) participating and observing dance culture, cultural identity, religion, education, gender, ecology, sexuality, human behavior, politics, and power all of which have had an influence on the development of the Batonese dance and dance culture in Haiti.
